UPDATE: Changes in Operations

Hello,

Please be aware that overdue fines have been waived until January 2, 2018.

Also be aware that starting on Monday, December 4, 2017, hours at Central and five neighborhood libraries will change. Hours of operation for other neighborhood libraries will remain the same.

The five branches whose hours will change are:

• Alief
• Collier
• Heights
• Jungman
• Park Place

New hours for the locations above are:

• Mondays: 12PM-8PM
• Tuesdays: 10AM-6PM
• Wednesdays: 10AM-6PM
• Thursdays: 10AM-8PM
• Fridays: 10AM-5PM
• Saturdays: 10AM-5PM

New hours for Central are:

• Mondays - Thursdays: 9AM-8PM
• Fridays and Saturdays: 10AM-5PM

REMINDER: Edits and Processing Flags

Good afternoon,

LMS needs your help!

Despite having just recently distributed newly revised "LMS Flag" forms, LMS staff have noticed an increase in the percentage of items being sent to use without flags and/or lacking critical information. This significantly affects our ability to handle them in an efficient and timely manner. In this situation, a little bit of extra attention to detail on the front end goes a long way.

Any item being send to LMS for a possible change or attention of some other kind, including problem AV items, must include a LMS Flag. One flag per item, not per bundle. Please note sender and unit in space provided at top of flag. If we can't determine which library an item came to us from, there is no way we can send it back following a fix or follow up with you regarding a change request. Post-its and slips of scratch paper with vague notes and no unit names are not substitutes for LMS Flags.

We would like to also remind staff to please review all items that have been set aside as problematic before they are sent to LMS as edits. We have noted receiving a large number of items that were not appropriate send-ins for various reasons, such as

• weeded items that have been stamped "Friends" and deleted from Sirsi
• items that are outdated or superseded by new editions (weeding candidates)
• damaged books
• items flagged as "barcode-not-found-in-Sirsi" that are in Sirsi and scan just fine
• damaged items that are in-transit to fill customer holds
• call number changes on items older than 2 years

New processing flags are available from the Supply Room, and any old processing flags should be sent to Float Team.

HPL 2018 and 2019 Holiday Schedules

Hello,

Due to inquiries that Customer Experience Administration has received regarding the 2018 HPL Holiday Schedule, Assistant Director of Customer Experience Elizabeth Sargent has released the approved HPL Holiday Schedule for 2018 and 2019.

One thing that has changed for the next two holiday schedules is that staff will have an extended Thanksgiving weekend break rather than the extended Christmas weekend break due to where the city holidays fall for Christmas 2018 and 2019.

Please note: the dates below that have "Holiday" next to them are the official city of Houston holiday dates on which full-time employees will receive holiday pay. Dates below that have "Closed" next them are dates on which HPL has decided to also close in conjunction with the official holiday dates, but holiday pay will not be provided. Any employees scheduled to work on "Closed" days would have to either make up the time (by reporting to work on their schedule off day) or use some kind of accrued leave.
