Hello,
Sara Karow from LMS has asked us to remind staff about LMS processes. Please read below for the reminders:
1. Remember that each individual item being sent to LMS for a barcode issue or other fix must have an LMS flag, filled out including name of location and sending staff member's name in addition to indicating the issue. Each item being prepped for submission as an Edit should first be examined to determine whether it warrants the fix or meets weeding criteria. Managers are responsible for ensuring that their staff does this. Reduction of weedable items and "mystery mail" in the Edits stream enables LMS staff to get the good stuff back on your shelves faster. Flags are available from the Supply Room.
2. Remember that LMS does not add withdrawn (i.e., discarded) material back into the collection. They belong to Friends. Occasionally a customer who may have purchased withdrawn items at a Friends' booksale accidentally returns them to us along with their checked out materials. Naturally, without an item record in Sirsi, they sometimes simply get dropped into an NL edit bin rather than being examined to determine why the discharge failed. In this case, if that had been done at the point of return, that they were withdrawals would have been caught and these items could have been handed right back to the customer or sent to Friends again if customer was unknown.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
If you find out that we are out of LMS processing flags, please let Dee (at Kashmere) or Twanna (at Lakewood) know so they may submit a supply order or let a supervisor know.
Thank you,
MR
